Guenther Steiner targets Spanish Grand Prix for upgrades

Guenther Steiner has said that he wants Haas to make 'bigger gains' in 2019. Haas will look to upgrade their package throughout the season as they continue to learn more about the current breed of cars. The boss of the American team has targetted the Spanish Grand Prix as a time for upgrades as they look to establish themselves as the 'best of the rest' and beat the likes of Renault, Racing Point and McLaren.

Speaking to Motorsport.com, Steiner said: "This year you need to change approach because with the new regulations you can make bigger gains with upgrades.

"Because everything is new, you have the potential to make bigger gains in the beginning.

"Our plan is to bring an upgrade to Barcelona. I think everybody's plan is because there is good potential to make the car better in a shorter time because there is lower hanging fruit after a car is developed for one year."

"In Bahrain, I don't think anybody will bring great upgrades," he said. "I think the upgrade war starts in Barcelona. So I think everybody's upgrading, and we are upgrading. I'm positive about that."

It will be interesting to see how Haas do in Bahrain. Their car looked relatively fast compared to the other midfield teams but things can change so quickly at this early stage in the season.
