With Liberty Media’s first big rule change set for 2021, Toto Wolff believes it is important that the regulations are set out before June’s deadline with discussions set for next week in London.

Liberty bought the Formula One group in 2016 for £3.3 billion with the deal completed in January 2017. They are yet to make a real impact on the brand and 2021 is seen as their first big changes but no rule set has been set in stone.

Speaking to Motorsport.com Toto Wolff was confident surrounding the changes: “I feel that there is some optimism in the discussions,” Wolff said.

“And we are all excited to understand what 2021 will be like.”

“Mercedes is certainly interested in finding a limit to the costs if it respects the right values that will make sense for everyone," he added about the subject of budget caps.

Despite being optimistic about the deal the Austrian once again emphasised the importance of making sure the June date was not exceeded saying: “The regulations are obviously another big step for 2021 so it will be important not to exceed the deadline until June.

“We'll see how it goes next week, but the climate seems positive to me,” added Wolff
