Pierre Gasly's Red Bull Racing debut won't be one he'll remember fondly as the Frenchman finished outside of the points in 11th, as he explained his qualifying outing doomed him for the rest of the race.

On Saturday, Gasly didn't make it out of Q1, staying in P17. It was a miscalculation from Red Bull, who thought Gasly's lap time would be enough for him to make it through to Q2. The end result, however, made him start 13 places behind teammate Max Verstappen and even behind both Toro Rosso cars.

"Everything went well up until [and including] the third practice, the pace was there and my feeling in the car was getting better and I had a similar pace compared to Max [Verstappen]," Gasly told Motorsport-Total

"But the Q1 run and being knocked out unfortunately affected qualifying and the whole race."

For the last part of the race, Gasly was stuck behind the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat, who defended his point with his life. Gasly couldn't get past the Russian and eventually walked away empty-handed.

"We knew it would be difficult to get back into the top 10 on such a track," the 22-year-old concluded.
