The first race of the season is done, and it's time to rate the drivers out of ten on their performance!

Lewis Hamilton – 7/10

Slow off the line, allowing Bottas to surge ahead but drove pretty solidly from there on. Expect more from him in the coming races.

Valtteri Bottas – 10/10

Utterly dominant. Pretty much unchallenged for the entire race and he set the fastest lap for the first ever 26 point haul in F1.

Sebastian Vettel – 5/10

A pretty poor race by his standards, he will be disappointed to miss out on the podium places to Verstappen, and was lucky his team had his back or Leclerc would’ve challenged him.

Charles Leclerc – 6/10

An okay first race for Ferrari. As mentioned above, he may well have overtaken Vettel in the dying laps if it wasn’t for his team holding him back.

Max Verstappen – 8/10

A very mature drive from the Dutchman, he starts the season with a good result, beating both Ferrari drivers.

Pierre Gasly – 4/10

11th place is not a good finish considering your team mate made the podium. Got stuck behind Kvyat for the last few laps which must have been frustrating.

Daniel Ricciardo – 3/10

Race barely lasted 100 yards before his front wing was ripped off by a concrete gutter. Not a good start to his Renault days.

Nico Hulkenberg – 8/10

Made up positions on the opening lap and secured a solid haul of points. Consistent as usual from the Hulk.

Kevin Magnussen – 8/10

Overtook team mate Grosjean on the opening lap and was pretty much unchallenged for the entire race. A good bet to be best of the rest this season.

Romain Grosjean – 6/10

Desperately unlucky with the slow pit stop and loose wheel. He could’ve been on for a decent haul of points but it wasn’t to be.

Sergio Perez – 5/10

Only went backwards and never looked like troubling the points. A disappointing race for such a talented driver.

Lance Stroll – 9/10

It was a controversial move at the time but Lance Stroll had the perfect start as a Racing Point driver, going form P16 on the grid to ninth at the chequered flag.

Carlos Sainz – 4/10

Like Grosjean, Sainz had a bad day but by no fault of his own. A low grid slot didn’t help but engine problems ended his McLaren debut early on.

Lando Norris – 7/10

Lost two positions at the start and was never in a place to get them back. Good battle with Giovinazzi and a promising debut despite finishing only 12th.

Kimi Raikkonen – 8/10

Converted P9 on the grid to P8. A pretty quiet race for the Iceman, but a good start to his season.

Antonio Giovinazzi – 5/10

For some reason he was left out on old tyres for a long time and lost a lot of positions. Showed glimpses of quality when defending from Norris but not much else.

Daniil Kvyat – 8/10

A very nice return to F1 and Toro Rosso for Kvyat. Snuck into the points with P10 and held off Gasly in the Red Bull. A promising sign for the season.

Alexander Albon – 6/10

A quiet race on debut, Albon milled around in the midfield all race and didn’t really catch the eye. 14th on debut, but hopefully there’s more to come.

George Russell – 7/10

Did the best he could in the circumstances considering the car underneath him. Handled himself very maturely in interviews afterwards as well. Hopefully Williams can bolt on some upgrades so Russell can show his potential.

Robert Kubica – 6/10

A fairytale for him to be back, but not much was made of his return, simply because he was so far away from anybody else. Still, it’s fantastic to see him back, no matter where he finishes.
