It would be a serious last minute change, but there's a chance that the F1 regulations might alter ahead of the 2019 season.

According to RaceFans, drivers will score a point for setting the fastest lap during each Grand Prix. The announcement is expected to be made at tomorrow's FIA World Motor Sports Council meeting in Geneva.

The fastest lap is not always recorded by the race-winning driver. It's also often attained during the final few stages of the race when fuel load is low. This could add an extra element to the final few laps of each Grand Prix throughout the season.

Any other last minute changes?

According to the same report, Liberty Media considered adding an extra point for pole position, but they determined this would kill off a title battle on race day if a driver needs one point going into the final race to win the world championship.

F1 last awarded points for fastest laps in 1959. Last season, Valtteri Bottas achieved the most amount of fastest laps with seven.
