Daniel Ricciardo has promised that his 2019 crash helmet design will be "funky and artistic". The Australian is yet to reveal his 2019 lid after running a pastel test crash helmet during winter testing.

Ricciardo's design will be without the Red Bull logo for the first time in his Formula One career after he left the team to join Renault. Although the Australian won't be revealing the design until Melbourne, he did admit that it would be different from what fans have gotten used to.

"This helmet has got a bit of coverage, so this has been a ‘test’ concept if you want to call it," he explained during testing.

"But I’ve been working with an Australian artist, and he has been working on it for quite a few months.

"It will come out in Melbourne, but it is certainly going to be different. It is not going to be traditional and typical with a halo and lines that mean nothing.

"I am trying to get away from the typical helmet these days, so it should be funky. It is kind of artistic in a modern way."

The 29-year-old will be hoping that it will bring him luck in his home event, adding that starting on home turf was always a good feeling.

"There is something pretty awesome in starting the season at home. There is added excitement behind that. For me, I like being in Australia, period. It is a nice country.

"We had quite a big break since Abu Dhabi, it was a long time in which you don’t really compete, so just to compete on home soil is cool. And going now with a new team and arriving there with a new team that is another added bit of excitement. It is good to get started, I think."
