Perez admits Racing Point's low mileage due to lack of parts

Sergio Perez has revealed that the low mileage for Racing Point in the first week of F1 testing was down to a lack of new parts.

The team has received a sizeable investment from a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll, saving the team from administration last season. Although they have more funds available to them in 2019, the start to the new season was not what they would have bee hoping for.

Having only logged more laps than the missing-in-action Williams team with a total of 248 laps, Perez admitted that the team had been restricted by a lack of new parts that they had with them at the test.

“Because we’re having massive package upgrade for Melbourne, we are very limited on parts as in the past,” Perez told Crash.Net.

“Right now you’re going to see low mileage from us, simply because we’re short on parts, we don’t want to risk it too much.

“The most important for us is to understand what’s going on with the balance, how we can make it better, how I can be more comfortable. I think on that regard we did good progress.”
