Stroll: "Shame" to see Williams "sitting on the sidelines"

Racing Point driver Lance Stroll has said it's a shame for him to see his former team Williams struggle as much as they have this year, as the Grove-based team haven't been able to test yet in Barcelona in the first two days.

Stroll spent the first two seasons of his F1 career at Williams, where he got his only podium in 2017 but struggled massively in 2018. The team finished last in the constructors' championship for the first time ever and Stroll left Grove in favour of Racing Point.

“I don’t know the ins and outs so I won’t comment on that but it’s a shame to see them sitting on the sidelines,” Stroll told Crash.net.

When asked if he's relieved to not be at Williams, the Canadian youngster was honest.

“I’d be lying if I said no, so yes! It’s better to be driving than standing here. But I wish them all the best to recover.”

Speaking on his own experiences at pre-season testing, Stroll explained his main focus was to get some laps on the board in his new car to get a feel for everything.

“We did quite a bit of running and we had a productive day.

“Racked up some good amount of laps and you know we got the chance to test plenty of items which is good. 

“It’s a new chapter and I’ve been looking forward to it over the winter, at the edge of my seat waiting for this day to come just to get in the car like everyone else.

“It’s always just nice to get back into it, get a feel for it."
