McLaren rookie Lando Norris won't be a party animal as he heads into his first season in Formula 1, as the 19-year-old explained he prefers staying in and driving on his simulator than going out.

Norris has been part of the McLaren youth program for years and surged through the junior categories of racing, finishing second in the Formula 2 championship last season to George Russell while also being the reserve driver of McLaren's F1 team.

When it comes to attitude, the Woking-based team seem to have the right man, as Norris explained he doesn't like to go out drinking as much as he does sim-racing in the comfort of his home.

"I don't do that [going out] now. I enjoy driving on the sim, doing stuff like that, staying at home," he was quoted by F1i.com.

"I don't like drinking, basically. At all. I find much more of a negative effect of a hangover than [a positive effect of] getting drunk.

"Sometimes I'll go out with some of my friends who live in London but I hope nothing comes of it.

"People are still allowed to have a life and do things they like and enjoy doing. I don't think I'm trapped in any way with what I'm allowed to do and not allowed to do.

"I do things I love doing. Sometimes that is maybe going out to have a drink with friends, going out partying or whatever.

"But I enjoy sim racing more than going out to do that, so you probably won't see me in London getting hammered too much."
