Nicolas Todt, son of FIA President Jean Todt, says he ‘will most likely play a role’ in Mick Schumacher’s development as a driver into Formula 1.

Todt has helped in the progression and development of quite a few drivers making their way into Formula 1, such as Charles Leclerc, Daniil Kyvat and Felipe Massa.

The son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher enters Formula 2 next year after winning the European F3 Championship last year and has recently signed a deal with Ferrari to be part of their Driver’s Academy, being given opportunities to take part in some mid-season testing with the team.

Todt said to Corriere della Sport: "After Leclerc, [Daniil] Kvyat and [Felipe] Massa I will most likely play a role with Mick too.

"Ferrari understood that it was worth investing in young people and today they are beginning to reap the rewards.

"Mick in F1 would be extraordinary not only for his family, but for sport, for Ferrari, for the fans.

"Mick at Ferrari is a special story.  Ask anyone in the world who Schumacher is and they can answer, and if you match that name with the word Ferrari, it's something really special.

"Because of the affection for Michael, this amplifies expectations but the name does not make him fast. He will have to build his future himself."
