Brendon Hartley has joined Ferrari and will be driving in their simulator in the 2019 season.

The former Toro Rosso driver was left without a racing seat for 2019 after it was made clear to him that he was not needed. In a recent article, Hartley revealed that he thought that plans were in place to remove him from the team early in the season.

Last season Daniil Kvyat and Antonio Giovinazzi were driving in the simulator for Ferrari Last season and now both have racing seats for 2019. Ferrari have therefore signed four drivers to take over these roles.

Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto said to readmotorsport“Our team has taken on four undoubtedly talented drivers, who possess innate feeling, with a strong understanding of race cars and tracks.

“These are exactly the qualities required in the skilful role of driving in a simulator, one of the vital pieces of equipment in the Formula 1 of today”.

It will be interesting to see if Hartley can emulate the path of Kvyat and use this role as a route back into Formula 1.
