Steiner believes Haas will need budget cap to succeed

With Liberty Media’s big change for 2021 set to be their first big impact on the sport, Guenther Steiner has revealed Haas are taking things slowly to avoid tripping up.

Haas finished a respectable fifth in the constructors' standings in 2018 their best ever finish, as they were pipped to best of the rest by Renault.

Speaking to Racer magazine Steiner said: “I can only talk for the next two years because we don’t have a contract beyond that!”

Haas will compete in F1 for the fourth season in a row in 2019, but despite their successful rise, Steiner feels the team will need a budget cap in order to succeed further.

“If there’s a budget cap, I think we’ve got a bigger chance to move forward than without it.

"If we get more share of the prize money, the better it is.

“It’s one of the most important things this next contract," Steiner added.

The aim for Haas is to keep up with steady progression instead of going for the top too quickly.

"We try to take on more tasks for this coming year, but you never try to do too much because if you get greedy then you normally trip over."
