These records could be broken at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
12 September at 10:30

For the first time in F1's history, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place in Autumn. The Baku street circuit awaits the grid, two weeks after the Italian GP and Charles Leclerc's victory. These records could be broken at this year's Baku weekend.

Potential records and milestones in Baku

The Azerbaijan GP has been run since the 2017 season, although during the first year, it was referred to as the European Grand Prix. Only Sergio Perez has won in Baku multiple times so far, but four drivers will have the chance to equal that record: Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo. There is currently a tie for most podiums in Azerbaijan between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes, moreover, they are the only constructors to win a Grand Prix that circuit.

Verstappen could also become tied with Sebastian Vettel for setting pole positions at different circuits, as the Dutchman is yet to start from P1 on the grid in Baku. The Dutchman has currently set pole positions on 22 tracks, as he is 10 behind Lewis Hamilton. However, if the Red Bull driver fails to finishes the race, he would have the most DNFs at the circuit.

At the moment, Ferrari have the most pole positions in the country, but if Lewis Hamilton or George Russell manage to be the quickest in qualifying, Mercedes could equal the Italians' record.

After Aston Martin officially announcing Adrian Newey to join the team, Fernando Alonso was very happy. If the Spaniard could lead a lap, he would become the driver to led a lap over a period that is longer than 20 years.
