New teammate impresses Albon: 'His work ethic is great!'
- Estéban den Toom
Franco Colapinto completed his first Formula 1 weekend. The Argentine driver is the replacement for Logan Sargeant, who was dismissed from the team after the Dutch Grand Prix. The weekend in the Netherlands did not go well for the American, as he caused a huge crash in FP3. Colapinto had a positive weekend in Monza and picked up Colapinto compliments from teammate Alexander Albon.
For a year and a half, Albon had to provide the points himself in the constructors' world championship. The American faced a lot of criticism and after the weekend at Zandvoort, Williams made a decision. Colapinto became Sargeant's replacement. At Monza, Colapinto finished 12th on Sunday.
Albon happy with Colapinto
The Thai-British driver was first asked if he had to mentor Colapinto a lot. "Not as much as you think. I don't know what he's done. I think he did the Abu Dhabi rookie test and then he did Silverstone. Good in both. Especially strong in Silverstone. Strong here all weekend. He's got raw pace. But also, honestly, his work ethic and his mindset is very impressive for someone at his age," Albon told GPblog and other media.
Albon is hugely appreciative of his new teammate. "He knows the bits that he needs to know. And he's also a confident guy in the best way. Going up to the engineers, asking more information about tyres or whatever. So I've been very impressed. I think he's definitely got the right mindset for Formula One," said the Williams driver.
