Renault's Max Fewtrell says the idea of having a seat in Formula 1 allows him to maintain focus as he looks to progress up the ladder.

The 19-year-old from Birmingham won the Formula Renault Eurocup last season as he continues to impress the bosses. Renault is aiming to promote one of their junior drivers into an F1 cockpit for the start of the 2021 season.

Nico Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo's contracts run out in time for 2021 with a plethora of rule changes scheduled to come in.

When Renault was at their zenith in 2006, it was a young Fernando Alonso driving the car towards the championship title. Fewtrell looks to relish the opportunity and hopes to replicate Alonso's results.

“I don’t think about it throughout the year but I might think of it when I’m sat at home and it’s a great feeling," he told Crash.net.

"It really does keep me motivated in the gym, just to think there is a seat, there is an opportunity and that’s why I’m here. That’s why they [Renault] have signed me because they believe in me. It’s a distant thought, I don’t focus on it too much I just focus on the job at hand but it’s awesome to think that it is a possibility.”
