Despite a tough 2018, Racing Point Force India driver, Sergio Perez believes the team can close the gap to the top three teams but admitted it won’t be “night to day”.

The team have rebranded after being rescued from administration by a Lawrence Stroll led consortium and he subsequently brought in his son Lance to drive for the team.

After having their points wiped before the Belgian Grand Prix the team finished well to finish a respectable seventh in the constructors’ championship.

“It takes time, we are very far from the top three teams in terms of pace, but that’s the target, to try to move as close as possible [to Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull],” said Perez.

"It’s not going to happen from night to day, but that is the target that’s in the back of our minds and we want to bring it a lot closer and try to be fighting as soon as possible in the top three teams.”

Following the takeover, the team are looking to move quickly with the development of a new factory and Perez revealed the excitement surrounding it.

“I’ve been chatting with the whole team, from mechanics to engineers to catering, everyone is really excited, really looking forward.”
