Silverstone plan another resurfacing ahead of British Grand Prix

Silverstone, host of the British Grand Prix, are planning another resurfacing ahead of this year's Grand Prix, as the venue hopes to improve drainage after having to cancel last year's MotoGP round there.

We say 'another' because the track had already been resurfaced right before the 2018 Formula 1 season. The Grand Prix went fine, with Sebastian Vettel winning in emphatic fashion, but a month later, the MotoGP round in Northamptonshire had to be cancelled because of heavy rain of the day of the race. The new surface had problems draining the large amounts of water.

“We are still awaiting the final outcome of the investigation,” Silverstone's managing director Stuart Pringle told RaceFans.

“We are closer to the end than the beginning.”

Silverstone are committed to improving the state of the track ahead of the MotoGP round there this year in order to avoid another potential cancellation. Opinions were also divided at the time on the F1 grid, with Lewis Hamilton saying the track did the "worst job ever" at resurfacing it. Fernando Alonso, on the other hand, said it had improved much from what it was previously.
