Racing Point’s problem with efficiency

Having survived a financial crunch and near collapse in 2018, Racing Point Formula 1 team need to find a way to stay efficient or risk not learning from their hard-learnt lessons, says team boss Otmar Szafnauer.

In 2018, the team were taken over after a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll brought all the assets from Force India which was put under administration.

Lack of money meant that there were delays in upgrading their packages, but funding from Stroll and his company helped them close the season strongly.

Team boss Otmar Szafnauer explained the teams situation.

“One thing we do well is that we’re an efficient team, efficiency just means for the input that we have, we get greater output,” he said to grandpx.news.

“Now the inputs are greater, and the output may not be proportionally greater, that’s a risk.

“So I always tell people, even though we’re going to have the financial resources, we can’t lose our efficiency, that efficiency has to stay the same.

“If that efficiency stays the same, and the inputs are higher, then the output will be tremendously higher.

“We have to make sure we don’t lose that efficiency, and it’s easy to do when you don’t have loads of money.

“We have to make sure we don’t start going all over the place,” Szafnauer stressed.

It will be interesting to see the team dynamics next season and although Sergio Perez has said that he is not concerned about favouritism, the father-son relationship with Lance and Lawrence Stroll will be interesting.
