F1 Managing Director of Motorsports Ross Brawn says that Formula One is evolving in the right way but that the time to reach the end of the process is frustrating. Formula One is hoping the 2021 rule changes will create a much more competitive running order.

Having been outspoken on the need to reduce costs and close up performance deficits between teams, Brawn believes that changing the rules for 2021 was the correct call and is hopeful of a rejuvenation of the sport.

Speaking to Motorsport.com, Brawn admitted that whilst he has been encouraged by the direction Formula One is heading in, the relatively slow results have been a frustrating aspect to deal with.

“I am satisfied with the direction. I am not satisfied with the pace. It’s been a big challenge to move things on, but I know what's going on and I can see what's happening and I know that if we hadn’t started this process, it certainly wouldn’t have got to where we’ve got to today.

“Of course, I'm impatient for more to happen. But it is a necessity to keep the teams involved, to find solutions with them, to work with the FIA and find solutions. So I think it's going in the right direction.

“I think it is the first time Formula 1 has taken this approach and is looking at how we improve the sport in many areas. We’re only two years into this journey, but I am optimistic that we're going to see in the next few years the benefits of the work we are doing.”

F1 has seen two teams dominate the sport since the beginning of 2010, with Red Bull picking up four and then Mercedes taking five straight world drivers and constructors titles.

Whilst some of those seasons have been closer than others, the new rule set is aimed at shaking up the order as well as enabling smaller teams to compete at a higher level.
