2019 Overview: When are the tests and car presentations?
With McLaren having announced the date of the reveal of their 2019 car, we now have four teams with scheduled car presentations in February, as well as the annual winter tests in Barcelona around the same period.
Dates of presentations of F1 cars
February 12th | Renault |
February 13th | Racing Point |
February 14th | McLaren |
February 15th | Ferrari |
Racing Point will be a bit of a wildcard heading into 2019, with the new investment group led by Lawrence Stroll giving the team a lot of financial firepower compared to previous years. Renault and McLaren should both have stronger cars than in 2018, with Renault looking to take the next step towards the top and with McLaren looking to bounce back from another disappointing year.
Winter testing 2019 - Circuit de Catalunya
18 - 21 February | Testing week 1 |
February 26th - March 1st | Testing week 2 |
The winter testing will take place in Barcelona again, as it has been for some years now. It's easy to reach for all teams, but the weather won't always cooperate in Spain. Last year, a few days were completely useless because of snowfall.
First Grand Prix of 2019
March 15th-17th | Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne, Australia |
As has been tradition for a good chunk of years, the F1 season will once again kick off in Australia. Local boy Daniel Ricciardo has switched teams this year as the Aussie will line up for Renault in 2019, making a podium on his home soil very unlikely, especially as overtaking can be very hard in Melbourne.
