Brawn: Hamilton taught me a lesson with off-track interests

Liberty Media's Ross Brawn has revealed that Lewis Hamilton's passions away from Formula 1 have taught him "a lesson" in how drivers should behave, saying that the five-time world champion has challenged his opinion of how a traditional driver should behave.

Lewis Hamilton is currently the most successful driver on the grid and is probably the most famous off the track as well.

Many feel that Hamilton's endeavours outside of Formula 1 may impact his performance in the car but this is yet to be the case. Hamilton has said that taking himself away from Formula 1 keeps him fresh and motivated for when he is back in the car.

Ross Brawn thinks Hamilton's successes have provided a lesson for himself and for other drivers.

"I've got a lesson from this," Brawn told Motorsport.com.

"I probably had a traditional view of racing drivers that they probably should follow a certain lifestyle when they are out of the car to maximise the performance in the car.

"It is underestimated what Lewis does outside the car in respect to his fitness and his training and his preparation. That doesn't tend to be highlighted.

"He has a passion to travel around the world for pop events, music events or fashion shows.

"That's unique and I think his success told everyone that you can do these things and still achieve.

"If somebody hadn't been successful and he was conducting this lifestyle, that would be said to be the reason why they are not successful because you are so used to more conservative approach."

Hamilton balances his passions and his driving and it can be said that his success is down to the fact that he can take himself away from Formula 1. Fans will be eager to see if the Brit can win his 6th title in 2019.
