Honest Williams: "We know how deep the pit is"

2018 couldn't have been much worse for Williams. Technical boss Paddy Lowe believes the team have reached a low and are desperate to dig themselves out as soon as the 2019 season kicks off. In an honest interview, Lowe is aware of how much trouble they're in, which is an important start to recovery.

"We have reached the bottom. Because we now know how deep the pit is in terms of performance. It has been a very difficult season for the team and I think for me personally the most difficult year so far," he told Autosport as he looks back in 2018.

"For the team, I think it is certainly not an unhealthy process to go through. For the long-term at least."

Along the same lines, Claire Williams said in a statement: "It gives the team the opportunity to restart and in this way look thoroughly at where things go wrong. This is to prevent us from falling into the same pitfalls as last season. These are the principles for building a better car in the future."

A fresh look is always a positive start. Robert Kubica and George Russell move into the cockpits as the team begin recovery.
