List of milestones Formula 1 will hit in 2019!

31-12-2018 16:00

The main event in 2019 looks likely to be a repeat of Lewis Hamilton v Sebastian Vettel with the potential of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc getting in on the action. However, there's plenty of milestones set to be hit. We take a look at some of the biggest!

1,000th Grand Prix

Just three races into the season and we'll get to one of F1's biggest milestones yet. The Chinese Grand Prix will play host to the 1,000th edition of Formula 1. Early this year [2018] discussions were in place to move the British Grand Prix at Silverstone into the April slot, but it wasn't to be.

Max Verstappen's 100th race

Moving to the end of the season, and Verstappen will complete his 100th race at the age of just 22. Will he become the youngest World Champion ever? We'll have to wait and see how the Honda engine performs inside the Red Bull, but Helmut Marko thinks he will. Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz will also reach the century mark during the same race.

150 Grands Prix for Romain Grosjean

Grosjean will go through the 150 barrier in just seven races time. Unfortunately for him, he won't get the home celebration as the French Grand Prix will be his 151st race. Out of 143 starts, the Haas driver has retired from 40 [27.97%] which probably isn't as high as people expect.

300 Grands Prix for Kimi Raikkonen

The Iceman is just eight races away from the major milestone. If he sees out his two-year contract at Sauber, he'll eventually beat Rubens Barrichello's total of 323 races. He has just Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso to overtake before tackling Barrichello.

1,000 career points for Daniel Ricciardo

The Aussie moves from Red Bull to Renault, and while we don't know how that'll work out, we do know he's likely to score his 1,000th point. Currently sitting at 986, he should do it inside the opening six races, but what a result it'll be if he can smash it with a podium in Australia!

70th British and Italian Grands Prix

Both Britain and Italy will get their 70th Grand Prix during the 2019 season. Hopefully, this number keeps ticking over for a while yet!

10 years since Button's triumph!

As always, 2009 season gets brought up a lot. But it'll be in our minds even more so in 2019. When Button didn't even have a car a few weeks before the start of the season but managed to go and beat with the field with the help of Ross Brawn! 10 years ago...wow!
