Fernando Alonso’s Formula 1 career may have come to an end, with his final race being the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but there’s still plenty to take from his final season.

Although Alonso wasn’t competitive at the top end of the leaderboard, finishing eleventh with 50 points he managed to outperform his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne beating the Belgian 21 times in qualifying.

In Malaysia, in 2017 he ended a run of 26 times in which he beat his teammate and the Spaniard spoke about how some of his success is down to his experience in other classes.

“I feel competitive and I'm fast.

"Maybe IndyCar and the WEC make me feel better or more complete.

“I understand the behaviour of the cars better, know different driving styles, different way to save energy, to save the tires," said Alonso.

Alonso goes on to mention how even the engineers throughout his different race classes have helped his racing saying: “You get so much more information from the outside, from other engineers, different angles that may make you better, give you a wider view of motorsports.

"Maybe you have an extra opinion when you 're in a Formula 1 Car is sitting, even if it is not completely helpful.

"But I think they help you with different philosophies."
