Vandoorne reflects on tough season

It was a tough season for Stoffel Vandoorne as his time in Formula One came to an end with McLaren and will now compete for HWA Racelab in Formula E.

The Belgian finished 38 points off his teammate Fernando Alonso but the former GP2 champion placed part of the blame on the car.

“It is never easy when you have the right car,” Vandoorne told motorsport.com.

“This year I think I have done some very good races and nobody has noticed them."

The 26-year-old went on to point out some of the races he thought he deserved more credit for highlighting Bahrain and Australia.

“The race in Bahrain was probably one of the most beautiful: we were last after turn 1 and we managed to get back to the points.

"Also in Mexico it was a good race and I honestly think that also in Brazil: sometimes you do not get rewarded with points despite good performances "

In Australia, both McLarens finished in the top ten despite the lack of preparation.

"That was the best moment, we had arrived unprepared. In the end it did not go as we hoped, but I'm happy with what we did "
