Charles Leclerc has been named the Rookie of the Year by the FIA after the 2018 season, but the 21-year-old couldn't fly out to Saint-Petersburg to collect his award because of an ear infection.https://www.gpblog.com/en/tag-news/scuderia-ferrari

The Monegasque has had a wildly impressive campaign in 2018, as he often led the midfield during races despite driving a Sauber.

He started the year with some struggles, as his teammate Marcus Ericsson left Leclerc behind him in the first few races, but once Leclerc got going, there was no looking back. He blatantly outperformed Ericsson race after race, out-qualifying the Swede more than 15 times in a row.

His driving turned heads at Ferrari, as the Italian team eventually decided to take the risk and sign Leclerc for 2019, making him the second youngest driver in the team's history.

Even though Leclerc couldn't attend the ceremony, he took to his Instagram to thank everyone involved.
