Now that Stoffel Vandoorne has departed the McLaren garage for the final time, he claims he was a victim of political games inside the team. The Belgian leaves the series to drive for Mercedes in Formula E which starts next month.

Following an eventful Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which saw Vandoorne battle hard with Esteban Ocon and Romain Grosjean, Vandoorne quickly turned attention to his next challenge. Sounding pleased to put McLaren behind him he releases fresh behind the scenes information.

"Now I'm going to rest a for a few days, clear my head and switch to an electric mode," Vandoorne laughed as he told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure.

"Nobody has seen the political games behind the scenes. I can not say much about it, but perhaps you can imagine it, personally, I do not regret it, since I could not do what I did now. What I've missed the most is the trust from the team.

"It is not always easy to perform and give the best of yourself when you know they are negotiating with other drivers at the same time, but I have not given up and I have finished my season with some good races."
