Sebastian Vettel feels as if Ferrari need to produce an "extra bit of pace" if they want to challenge for victory in the season finale at the Yas Marinas Circuit.

Vettel had a rather underwhelming Friday; only managing eighth and sixth fastest in FP1 and FP2, respectively.

"I think today (Friday) has been OK; obviously we are not quick enough yet, but we did improve between the two sessions, track conditions come towards us and hopefully tomorrow we will be better placed and we'll try to do our best," the German said to The Checkered Flag.

The runner-up to Lewis Hamilton this season believes that tyre degradation will be crucial in this weekend's concluding race of the season, but despite that; he also believes Scuderia need to pluck some more speed from somewhere.

"I think on Sunday a lot will depend on the tyres," Vettel admitted. "We tried to work a bit on the car today (Friday) and we still have some margin in terms of performance, but we need to find another extra bit of pace.

"However, I think we should be able to improve for the race. I was surprised by the fact that the tyres allow you a second attempt on a fast lap today."
