In what could be his last-ever race in Formula 1, Sauber's Marcus Ericsson is looking to end the season and his era at Sauber with a bang as the Swede thinks it's possible for him to score points in the last race of the season.

Sunday will be Ericsson's 97th start in Formula 1. It will get stuck on that for the time being, at least, as Sauber have opted to bring in Ferrari academy product Antonio Giovinazzi as well as 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen for next season, leaving Ericsson without a drive.

He will remain the Swiss-Italian team's reserve driver but his main focus will be IndyCar next season, where he'll compete for Schmidt Peterson Motorsport.

The 28-year-old Swede has managed nine points this season after two point-less seasons in 2016 and 2017, with Sauber massively struggling for relevance in those seasons.

“It will be a special weekend, and I aim to finish it on a high [as this is] the last race for me in this stint in Formula 1,” Ericsson was quoted by TheCheckeredFlag.

“We have had some good results recently, and our form is strong. The car is competitive, and we will push to being home some more points. I look forward to this season finale very much.”

Ericsson started from P6 in Brazil but eventually retired from the race. The qualifying result was a big confidence booster as he beat Charles Leclerc finally after a long time, but a disappointing final result with the retirement.
