Five years have passed since Michael Schumacher’s tragic skiing accident in the Swiss Alps yet there is still very little information about the former seven time World Champion’s condition. The German will turn 50 in January and in the run up to it his family have released the last interview he did before the accident.

During the interview the former Ferrari hero spoke emotionally about his first world title with the Scuderia.

"That would undoubtedly have been the title I achieved with Ferrari at Suzuka in 2000. After a drought of 21 years, we finally took the title through a special race win" , Schumacher Said.

He also revealed that he has the upmost respect for his old rival Mika Hakkinen. The Finn won two World Championships in 1998 and 1999 before retiring in 2002.

Schumacher also mentioned the differences from the ‘old’ Formula 1 and the newer: “A lot has changed, but that does not mean that Formula 1 is one of the toughest sports. Preparation is crucial."

Finally, he goes on to talk about developing your skills as driver and that you can only go so far with talent alone: “Talent is very important in racing, but as in any sport, that is something you have to develop. Karting provides a good basis for demonstrating your talent, but you also need to find the other competences you need as a racing driver, " says Schumacher.
