Sophia Floersch underwent a successful surgery according to doctors. The 17-year-old suffered a spinal fracture after a horrific crash during the Macau Grand Prix. Doctors say the seven-hour surgery went ahead as planned and was completed without any issues.

The Formula 3 racer was sent through the catch fence at the Lisboa corner after being launched into the air by the inside kerb and crashed heavily into a photographers post set up on the outside of the corner.

Doctors added that her limbs were still active and that her vitals were fine after the surgery in a press conference and Floersch is set to remain in hospital for the next two weeks while she recovers.

Whilst fellow driver Sho Tsuboi, who was hit in the head during the accident, and photographer Hiroyuki Minami were released from hospital on Sunday evening, track marshal Chan Cha and another photographer Chan Weng Wang will both remain under observation after suffering a broken jaw and lacerated liver respectively for at least another week.
