Red Bull-bound Pierre Gasly thinks the F1 is in good hands with the "next generation" of drivers, which include himself and the likes of Charles Leclerc and George Russell.

The 22-year-old has been in Formula 1 for just over a year now, making his debut for Toro Rosso in the latter stages of 2017. He's turned a lot of heads during this season, particularly with his P4-finish in Bahrain. When Daniel Ricciardo announced his departure from Red Bull this summer, the team was quick to call Gasly to replace the Aussie at the Bulls. He will line up with Max Verstappen from 2019 onwards.

Gasly is part of a new wave of drivers that have taken the F1 by storm in recent years. He thinks that this is only a good thing.

"I think honestly we had a pretty good generation with Charles [Leclerc], Esteban [Ocon] because we raced together since 2005," he was quoted by RaceFans.

"So the fact that we kept racing each other every year, I think it was useful for all of us trying to extract the best of ourselves and it kind of raised our game for all of us. It was a really good thing."

Besides that trio of drivers, there are also two new young Brits coming into F1 next season. Even though Gasly has never raced either Russell or Lando Norris, he still welcomes the two of them and is excited to take them on on the track.

"We see also some new guys like [Lando] Norris coming and [George] Russell. Kind of a new generation coming into Formula 1. Probably for the people that didn’t follow the F1 in the last five years [who] will start [to] follow again either next year or in two years the grid will change quite a lot.

"But I think it’s a pretty good thing, fresh people in Formula 1, I think we have a lot of ambitions, all of us, we know what we want and it’s great. We’ve been growing together in the lower series and now we are at the top of motorsports still fighting and hopefully will keep going for the next few years."
