Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that he’s not upset about missing out on a podium finish in Brazil, despite the Aussie being within touching distance as he was on Kimi Raikkonen’s heels for the latter part of the race.

After cashing in a five-place grid penalty, the 29-year-old Ricciardo started from P11. He made quick work of overtaking the midfield cars to get back into the top six, and he kicked on from there as well. The Red Bull possessed a lot of pace, and Ricciardo’s supreme overtaking ability saw him overtake both Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel with some good moves.

Still, Danny Ric is not upset about missing out on a potential podium.

“We had the pace but I don’t have any regrets,” Ricciardo was quoted by Crash.net after the race.

“I don’t feel I lost a podium or the team lost it for me. We did everything we could. So, I am not upset about that.

“I just feel like every time we start out of position or at the back, we have a fast car. So it is just a bit of built up frustration. But the race was fun.

“They [Red Bull] left me out at the beginning and let me attack at the end but I’m not angry at anyone, just upset that we just missed the podium when we definitely had a car quick enough.”

Both Ricciardo and his teammate Max Verstappen, who finished second, had talked down the chances of Red Bull in Brazil, but they looked to have the quickest car at times. This left Ricciardo hopeful for a good outing in Abu Dhabi as well, the last race of the season and his last-ever race for Red Bull before switching to Renault in 2019.

“We had a surprisingly had a very fast car today. I know we were better than fourth but anyway I get one more chance with the team to get up there.

“With the pace we had today I really have some optimism going to Abu Dhabi. I feel that is always a stronger track for us than this is.”
