Formula One Group chief executive Chase Carey wants to provide more chances for drivers of different nationalities in their future.

The Vietnam Grand Prix was announced earlier today and fans are now keen to find out if the Miami race will also join the Formula One calendar in 2020.

Carey spoke to the media in the aftermath of the recent announcement and outlined his vision for the future of F1.

"We want to provide opportunities for drivers of different nationalities from around the world," Carey told AFP. "We'd love to have a Chinese driver, an American driver, a female driver, a Vietnamese driver, all be part of our future.

"We'd love nothing better than to have races around the world. To have teams and drivers from around the world.

"Asia is certainly important as a growth engine of the world and it will just become an increasingly important part of the world," the American continued. "Being in Asia is certainly a cornerstone to our long-term growth strategy.

"As much as anything, it's important to have a long-term perspective, I think in the past there was a bit of a short-term view towards many of the things that we did."

Carey was then questioned on whether Vietnam will be more successful than the failures in Korea, India and Malaysia and his response was then less convincing.

"The most important aspect of maximising value and the opportunity here is to make sure we have a great event," explained Carey.
