Massa: Vettel is more to blame than Ferrari for the missed opportunity

Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says Sebastian Vettel should take the majority of the blame for failing to win the 2018 title. Vettel and pundits believe it's an equal combination of the two parties, but Massa disagrees.

"Vettel and Ferrari missed a chance this year, but I think Sebastian has more guilt than the team," Massa told Globo's Bem Amigos programme.

Vettel's biggest and most obvious mistake of the year came when he ran off track in Hockenheim. The German was leading his home race, but a wet track caught him out as he ran into the gravel trap. Massa alludes to this and other mistakes throughout the year.

“Germany was especially painful, where Vettel could have won but he lost the full 25 points. But there were also mistakes in qualifying, the wrong strategies, unnecessary contact with Bottas in France. I think Vettel made more mistakes than Ferrari did,” Massa added.

Massa, who will compete in Formula E for the first time next month, says Lewis Hamilton is the favourite to win the championship again next season. He believes the Brit will go on to take Schumacher's records.

“He [Hamilton] is already the one with the most poles in history and close to the record for wins. He is 33 years old and seems to be an obvious favourite in the fight for the title next season. He has a chance to beat all of the records,” Massa concluded.
