Giovinazzi wants rear view cameras in F1

Antonio Giovinazzi insists Formula 1 should install rear view cameras. The Sauber-to-be driver would like to see a similar style to that used in GT racing as aerodynamic work continues to compromise the ability to see in the mirrors.

Earlier in the week, Kevin Magnussen claims he is sometimes "left blind" during crucial moments in the race. In Austria, Sebastian Vettel picked up a penalty for failing to move out of the way when a driver was coming up behind hampering a hot qualifying lap.

Giovinazzi believes a screen would help drivers from ruining a hot lap and improve safety standards.

"Now it’s really difficult to see with the mirrors with the aerodynamics at the back of the car, so maybe a screen will help," the Italian said in an interview on F1i.

"It will depend [on] where you put the screen and everything, but I think it can be a good option. In an endurance race you need the mirrors more because an LMP1 car is coming or a GT car is behind you, so you need to see more.

"I think this was really good for drivers to have a camera to see what’s behind."

We think it'll provide TV with an extra angle as well if they can get it linked. But what do you think? Will a camera work in F1? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
