Marcin Budkowski warns Renault drivers Brazil will be tougher

Marcin Budkowski, Renault's CEO has warned his drivers that the team might not be as competitive in Brazil next week. Over the last two race weekends, Renault have picked up 22 World Championship points, almost sealing fourth place in the process.

With Romain Grosjean unable to overturn his disqualification from the Italian Grand Prix, the gap between Haas and Renault is open at 30 points. This takes the pressure off the French team. Budkowski initially talks through the work which has created this gap.

"It could have been more [points] if Carlos Sainz had not retired in Mexico City," Budkowski told Speedweek.

"Both tracks [Austin and Mexico] fit much better with our overall package than some of the previous ones, and we've worked hard to better understand our car and get the best possible performance."

Budkowski then turns his attention to the final two races of the 2019 season. He has warned Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg to expect a harder weekend in Brazil. He claims the track doesn't go well with their car.

"Interlagos lies at 800m above sea level. But the circuit is one of the highest impact races on the engine. The impact on the engine and cooling is therefore in line with Mexico," Budkowski added.

"Compared to the recent two races, the track in São Paulo does not go so well with our car, but we are still travelling with the expectation of being competitive there."
