Wolff: "Gap year" for Ocon is most likely now

With a Williams seat still up for grabs, a lot of Esteban Ocon fans are crossing their fingers for their driver to sign up. But Toto Wolff continues to express how unlikely it's looking for his junior driver.

Ocon, currently at Force India has scored 49 points this season and has the opportunity to break into the top 10 over the last two race weekends. While being tipped to become a future great, he's found himself unlucky in the drivers market.

Wolff would like to see Ocon at Williams but suggests a gap year will not be the end of the world for the 22-year-old.

"I think it’s kind of settled into a situation that we might need to find the right seat for him in 2020 and have a gap year and integrate him a lot in our team and make him contribute to the team’s performance," Wolff told Racefans.

"He and us have kind of got our head around it, even though it’s not perfect. Unless a last-minute opportunity opens up at Williams, but it’s not in our hands it’s for Claire [Williams] and the team to decide."

Ocon will compete in his 50th Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
