Leclerc told to save tyres 50 times in Mexican GP

Charles Leclerc’s strategy on Sunday at the Mexican Grand Prix was incredible, lapping 56 times on the super soft tyres to finally come home in P7 and pick up another six points for his championship tally as he sits in P15.

In a Grand Prix that was dominated by tyre wear, the Monegasque was one of just five drivers to start on the hypersoft tyres and somehow managed to pit just once.

He managed to keep his position in P7 by only pushing on exit of turn 16, to stay ahead of those behind him, notably Kevin Magnussen, who said over the radio that he could not overtake the Sauber.

And now it has been revealed that Leclerc was told 50 times to save his tyres, with the first message coming on the very first lap.

He was frustrated by the calls but they were justified as he held off Stoffel Vandoorne in P8 to secure his third points finish in the past five races.
