We got a sneak preview of the potential rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen during the United States Grand Prix but Red Bull has ruled out the possibility of signing the reigning world champion as a teammate to the young Dutchman in the future.

In a battle that had the championship on the line, Hamilton and Verstappen went wheel-to-wheel with the Mercedes driver needing second place at the time to wrap up the championship.

A great bit of positioning by Verstappen and a level-headed approach from Hamilton meant that the Briton's audacious attempt to pass around the outside didn't come off, with Hamilton having to settle for third place.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Head of the Red Bull driver development programme Dr Helmut Marko said that the chances of a Verstappen/Hamilton partnership at the team in the future were slim to none.

“You have to have some sort of harmony in the team,” he told Sky Sports News.

“At the moment they are the two drivers with the biggest ego. That would be more than a challenge to the team.”

Pierre Gasly will be taking the vacant Red Bull seat in 2019 whilst Hamilton's teammate will stay the same in Valtteri Bottas. Will we see the two going against each other once again for a championship title next season?
