Force India are intending to change their name for the 2019 season, according to the team boss Otmar Szafnauer.

The team have been known as Force India since 2008, with the side applying for changes to its name in the past, but ultimately sticking with the same name.

Vijau Mallya's involvement with Force India ended earlier this year, in the summer, when the owner was bought out by a consortium ran by Lawrence Stroll, with 'Racing Point' added in front of the original name.

Szafnauer has revealed that there are plans in place to change the name for 2019.

"I think in the last couple of years, some of the considerations (of changing the name) were around selling the team and I think that bit of it is taken away," the boss said.

"We've just got to come up with the right name that will last for a long time."

Szafnauer continued that there "are all sorts of possibilities" that are under consideration for Force India.

Applications for name alterations HAVE to be approved by the Formula 1 Commission, with the 2019 entry list to be published in the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in December.
