Formula One legend Alain Prost believes that the sport must simplify its technical regulations with Liberty Media planning a number of changes for the 2021 season.

Prost is a four-time world champion of the sport and was one of the biggest names, along with his rival Ayrton Senna between the 1980s and 1990s.

The former world champion is now working with Renault as an advisor, with the French side falling victim of the F1 V6 Hybrid era - with its incapability of keeping pace with Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

Prost thinks that the current state of F1 means that teams rely too much on engine power and not enough on their drivers.

"The engine rules are the most complicated," Prost told Ouest-France. "Every change to the engine involves significant costs, but they should in any case be more powerful with more fuel available and more performance.

"Technically it should be simpler, giving rise to the possibility of surprise, ingenuity, and the driver making the difference, rather than these machines of war that we see today where 80 per cent of the performance is aero and engine.

"I would like to see better balance. Personally I would remove the diffuser. In my day, we had different concepts with big performance and we followed each other with no problem. We need much simpler cars aerodynamically."
