Sauber rookie Charles Leclerc has revealed what lessons he's learned so far after being in the Formula One for nearly a season, as the Monegasque is bound for Ferrari in his sophomore season in 2019.

Leclerc has been one of the surprises of the season, as the 20-year-old has shown already that he's destined for greatness with some amazing drives in his Sauber. The Swiss team were a bit of a laughing stock up until this year, but they find themselves in the points quite regularly now, with Leclerc even finishing best of the rest in Russia in P7.

When speaking about how he deals with F1 and how he deals with racing in general, Leclerc revealed that listening to the right people is key if you want to improve as a driver and as a person.

“Obviously you need to be confident that you can do it,” the rookie was quoted by Motorsport Week.

“But you also need to be very humble and accept that sometimes you need to change the things and listen to the people [who have been active] in the sport for a long time for you to change that type of things.

“I’m always very open-minded in any kind of tips or things that I need to change on track or where can I get better, I think this helps a lot.

"Probably the biggest thing is to listen to people."

What it is that they tell him exactly, is to keep his head down, Leclerc then explained.

“I’ve had it [advice] from different people telling me to keep the feet on the ground and always work - that’s something extremely important.

“It’s easy in Formula 1 to get with…there’s a lot of attention compared to Formula 2 and to think straight away ‘okay I’ve done it’, which is not the right mentality, so this is probably one of the [biggest] advices that helped me.”
