Kvyat admits there is "a lot of work ahead"

Daniil Kvyat is grateful for his second chance at Formula One as he is set to make his second debut in the sport with Toro Rosso.

Kvyat was ruthlessly dropped by the team before the end of the 2017 after a string of below par performances ended in him being replaced by Brendon Hartley for the final few races of the season.

It looked like the Russian’s career was over at the age of 23, but he received the call earlier last month that he was being recalled to the team, after the driver line-up circus saw Daniel Ricciardo leave Red Bull to be replaced by Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly.

Kvyat gained a reputation in the latter parts of his first F1 stint as a crash merchant, even being given the nickname of ‘The Torpedo’.

Kvyat is happy to return to the sport, but knows he has to work hard if he is to make a successful F1 career.

He said: “I’m very positive now, very happy to be back.

“But you cannot be happy forever. You have to acknowledge there is a lot of work ahead.

“I’ve been working on myself a lot this year. It’s very important I think to be in a good mental window with yourself, and this year, it’s exactly what I was focusing on, even though some days it wasn’t certain that I was going to be coming back.

“Once I knew, I was confident that it was going to be very positive.”
