Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost believes that Formula One and the FIA is running out of time to finalise the rule changes they are looking to implement in 2021. A large overhaul of regulations are expected but the Toro Rosso man is hoping for news sooner rather than later.

Widespread changes had been planned with the rules relating to engines at the forefront of the expected amendments. The key rule changes will be factors teams will need as much time to acclimatise to the changes as possible, something Tost highlighted at the Japanese Grand Prix.

“Once more the FIA and FOM has to come up now with solutions, because time is running away,” Tost told media at Suzuka.

“We are talking about 2021 and we still don’t have a 100 per cent fixed regulation for the chassis and for the power unit. This needs to be clarified as soon as possible."

Tost added that he hoped that any regulation changes would be designed with closing the field up in mind, with the current regulations causing a split between teams based on budgets and investments.

"There are three teams and the rest are far behind. The FIA and FOM must come up with a regulation from the sporting side and the technical side.

"Formula 1 is entertainment and currently. Fortunately thanks to (Lewis) Hamilton and (Sebastian) Vettel, we have two drivers who keep this entertainment on a higher level.

"But a minimum of five or six drivers [must be] able to fight for the championship, because this is what the spectators want to see."
