Sergey Sirotkin has emerged as a very late candidate for the vacant Toro Rosso seat in 2019. According to sources in the paddock, the Russian could be on the move from Williams to Toro Rosso to drive alongside Daniil Kvyat who returns to the team after being replaced in 2017.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Sirotkin is a contender a the seat at the team and as a replacement for Brendon Hartley, whose Formula One career looks to be over after just one full season with the team.

They claim that the representatives of Sirotkin met with Dr. Helmut Marko, head of the Red Bull driver development programme, during the Russian Grand Prix weekend in regards to a possible move away from Williams.

Sirotkin brings significant money with him to Williams which could prove an important factor for the team when considering their options. Sirotkin's current teammate Lance Stroll looks to be on the move to Force India for 2019 after his father Lawrence led a late effort which saved the team from administration.

Williams is rumoured to be looking at fellow Russian and current F2 driver Artem Markelov as a replacement for Stroll. Markelov would also bring funding which would help cushion the blow of losing Stroll alongside primary sponsor Martini, who will break ties with Williams at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Sky Sports F1 report that Williams is also considering taking on Esteban Ocon or George Russell, both Mercedes junior drivers, in a deal which would see Williams also ask for discounted engines as part of any agreement for either driver.
