Daniel Ricciardo says it is a positive that Daniil Kvyat has been given a second chance in F1. The Russian was announced as one of the Toro Rosso drivers for 2019 this weekend.

Speaking to the media after the announcement had been made, Ricciardo joked that Kvyat should brand himself according to how Sebastian Vettel described his style after an almost-crash at the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix.

"It's now the resurrection of 'The Torpedo'," Ricciardo joked.

"If I was Dani, I'd get the torpedo on the helmet...I'd put out a tweet or something (saying) 'The Torpedo is back'. From him, that would be strong."

Dr Helmut Marko, head of the Red Bull driver development programme, had called Kvyat immature in the past, but Ricciardo was keen to see his development with his time away from a race seat at Ferrari as a development driver.

"I'm not saying he was immature, but these things will help him keep a cooler head and probably reach his potential more consistently.

"It's cool that he gets another crack. All I can say is that I hope it works for him."
