Toro Rosso is expected to make the announcement that Daniil Kvyat will return to the team in 2019 during the course of the Russian Grand Prix weekend. Kvyat was unceremoniously dumped by Red Bull and demoted the team he started in F1 at before being replaced by Pierre Gasly before the end of last season.

Kvyat had been chosen by Red Bull to partner Daniel Ricciardo at the team after Sebastian Vettel's departure to Ferrari, but the arrival of Max Verstappen in F1 meant he was in the right place at the wrong time and found himself demoted to Toro Rosso with Verstappen going the other way.

During his stint with Red Bull, Kvyat failed to score a victory for the team and his dip in form continued after his demotion to Toro Rosso.

Kvyat was picked up by Ferrari as a developmental driver after he left Toro Rosso but is set to make a return to the team for a third stint. The announcement is rumoured to be happening this weekend at his home race in Sochi.

Whilst the Russian's return is an expected eventuality, who his teammate will be at the team remains to be seen, with rumours of a return for Jean-Eric Vergne and Sebastien Buemi seemingly wide of the mark.

F3 racer Dan Ticktum had been the obvious choice for Red Bull, however the Brit would need to win the European F3 title and the Asian winter series to earn enough superlicense points to compete in F1.
