Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly will be making the promotion to Red Bull next season, manning the RB15 next to Max Verstappen, and that's a prospect the Frenchman is very much looking forward to, as he thinks "good times are ahead".

After Daniel Ricciardo announced that he would be leaving Red Bull at the end of the season, Gasly was immediately put forward as the main candidate. He ticked a lot of boxes; quick (of course), a Red Bull youth driver, and a lot of experience with Honda.

When asked how he will fit in at the Bulls, Gasly was mostly positive, but also realistic.

"You always need some time to get used to things, but hopefully I'm quickly at ease with the team and with the car," Gasly told Ziggo Sport.

Of course, he does know the team for a while already, as he was part of the Red Bull programme long before he ever made it to F1, which should make the transition a little easier.

"I've known the Red Bull team for a while now.

"I even did some simulator work on their request.

"Hopefully I'll be comfortable there quickly."

Speaking on his partnership with Max Verstappen, Gasly was positive, but also knew about the Dutchman's relentless competitiveness.

"I don't wish to race Max into the ground.

"We're both drivers and we both strive to be the best - I want to be the best F1 driver and so does he.

"It's nice to have someone so quick next to you, it brings out the best in you.

"Good times are ahead."
