Max Verstappen has had his say on Honda, Red Bull's new engine partner for next season, saying that the Japanese have yet to show their full potential, as "there is still much to come" from them.

Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson already praised Honda after Monza, saying that the Toro Rosso engine is much more powerful than people think. He struggled to pass Pierre Gasly's Honda-powered Toro Rosso, while the Swede had a Ferrari engine in the back.

Speaking to Motorsport.com in an exclusive interview, Verstappen did concede that Honda have had a checkered past in the past few years in F1.

"The period when McLaren and Honda worked together wasn't positive," he said.

"But I think they've made big strides this year and that there's still much more to come.

"So it's a positive for us that we'll be driving with their engines next year."

Despite Toro Rosso being the development team in general, the Dutchman revealed that Red Bull will probably be the team who will be most active on the front of developing the engine, rather than the Faenza-based team.

"A team like Red Bull can give much more input than Toro Rosso, but that both teams are using the engine is a positive, of course.

"You can do much more testing that way.

"Honda really wants to win and the mentality is there - that's nice to see."
